Fed best

For the baby (even for baby 2) I wanted to exclusively breastfeed … breast is the best they said and I took it quite seriously …. for the first time it could be a bit overwhelming ..for some painful and exhausting .. a 20-40 min feeding session every 2 hours is not for faint-hearted…

There are now campaigns for breastfeeding … a whole month dedicated to it …. lactation experts etc but let me break the bubble “fed is the best “… a happy baby and a happy you are the best … what your pediatrician (not ur neighborhood aunties or your relatives or ur in-laws) says is the best…

your first choice should, of course, be breastfeeding but if it doesn’t happen to choose the next right thing for the baby and you

I exclusively breastfed my daughter until she was almost 2 and I thought I was a pro then came to my son … he couldn’t latch and I literally would scream whenever he started the feed …. the whole 20 min would be so painful…I would compare him to pirana (the deadly fish with sharp teeth ) … I was sore ..I had bleeding  … After a bit of research online I learned that there are many miserable moms like me around the world …. thinking of it now makes no sense  why I went through all that pain … the breastfeeding moment is taken up too seriously …of course  it is amazing but  making a new mom feel depressed because she couldn’t do the

“most natural” thing is wrong …. I should have given him formula for few days and resumed feeding once I was completely healed but I used to feel that I had no choice and it made me feel miserable… the breastfeeding moment should create awareness not stress

mommies please relax and do what’s best for you and your baby … you would/should be the best judge of what is good for you and your baby…

Annnd yes pumping was fun … I would store breast milk and label them and feel so proud of looking at the bottles …

I am staying at home mom so for the first child who was allergic to sleep pumping was a lifesaver … I would pump and stay awake with her the whole night and once I sleep someone would feed her the milk … but for my second child who was a good sleeper pumping dint make any sense…

…. god if I had to go through one more round of pumping, cleaning and sterilizing bottles I would have gone mad so I stopped it … I was lazy the second time around … why bother with all the cleaning and sterilizing when you can give them fresh…

so actually breastfeeding saves you time … and money (if you have to buy formula) … no need for cleaning (except their bums) no sterilizing ( only ur hands)…

and helps you form a perfect bond with ur baby because come on the baby is glued to you 24/7 … and trust me once you are done with the breastfeeding you will actually miss it …. call me crazy but feeding sessions were one of my favorite times spent with the little ones once I got the hang of it

The real challenge of feeding a hungry baby starts when you introduce solids …  that’s a long story so wait till my next blog…
