Dr Ashok Chowdary is the Senior Consultant and Head of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Blossoms Children’s Hospital, Vijayawada. He completed his undergraduate from Katuri Medical college. He was an Observer at Vishaka Children’s Hospital, Vizag for sometime before he joined Voluntary Health Service ( VHS ) in Chennai to look after General Pediatrics and Level I NICU. He received his post-graduate degree in Pediatrics from JSS medical college, Mysuru. He pursued his Fellowship in Pediatric Intensive Care from Rainbow Children’s Hospital, Bangalore. He has over 8 years of experience in the field.

Dr Ashok is strong-minded and soft-hearted. He is very patient and meticulous in dealing with health chaos of sick children in PICU. “PICU is a world unto itself. It’s scarily quiet and deafeningly loud at the same time, with medical staff speaking in hushed voices amidst the cacophony of beeps and alarms that never stop. People often ask me what do you do for a living? Well, I bargain for life with the Angel of Death. I am an Intensivist ” he summarizes his job.

He is a good teacher and is involved in training masses in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) courses. He is an active participant in local forums, health debates and school health programs.

His special areas of interest include Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), Neurocritical Care, and Point Of Care (POC) Ultrasound in PICU.
